Sean has over twenty-seven years experience in therapeutic interventions, psycho-education and program development roles. He holds a Master’s in Counselling Psychology, is a member of the APS and also has a background in Law.
Sean’s practice is eclectic but holds Mindfulness-based cognitive therapies (MBCT, ACT), Psychodynamic and Family Systems (IFS and Bowenian) approaches, strengths focus and a range of meditative, consciousness-enhancing practices at it’s core - applying a compassionate, collaborative, person-centered and trauma-aware approach to clients and colleagues alike.
Aspects of Buddhist Psychology are emphasised, incorporating Vipassana observation and breath-work practices for activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, and the facilitation of Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) group programs. Meditation practices are utilised to enhance ‘observer consciousness’ of cognitive, emotional and somatic phenomena, so that the interaction of thoughts, emotions, sensations and subtle processes animating the mind-body complex can be better understood accepted and, where possible, functionally adapted.
Sean has over the years worked with individuals and families impacted by substance addiction, combat veterans, victims of violent crime, and children and young people experiencing warfare-induced trauma. He has been the Psychologist-in-Residence for the Federal Governments Adolescent Relationships website The Line, the senior member of clinical teams supporting Commissioners and staff of the Royal Commission into the Insititutional Responses to the Abuse of Children in Care and The Commission for Children & Young People (VIC).
Sean completed the MAPS MDMA Assisted Therapy Training Program (90hrs: Lectures, Group Work, Tutorials, 1 week residential) between Sydney, Melbourne and on-line in 2024.
Since 2010 Sean has developed a general counselling-psychology practice as part of a multi-disciplinary, integrative team in Sydney’s North, and revels in collaborative explorations, invested with genuine compassion, warmth and curiosity: helping clients to identify and cultivate their own inner resources.
